Some Beyond Plutocracy Reading Tips

Many web pages do not allow one to change the size of the text. But this book’s web pages do … if the web page browser program in which they are viewed allows them to. For example, Microsoft’s Internet Explorer program, version 6, allows one to change the text to the most comfortable viewing size by selecting “View” in its menu system and then “Text Size.” Your browser may have the same function but possibly located at a different place in its menu system. Be sure to return the text size back to its original size when you are done with your reading session so that the web pages at other web sites viewed later appear properly formatted.

The easiest way to move through the book’s text is to use the keyboard’s “motion keys”: Home, PgUp, Up Arrow, Down Arrow, PgDn, and End. The Space Bar can also be used to move downward through the text one screen-full at a time. So the easiest way to move downward through the text while reading is to press the Space Bar or to hold down or repeatedly press the Down Arrow key as needed. It is not necessary to fiddle with the mouse as one reads.

What if you quit a reading session in the middle of a chapter and later want to get back there? Web page browser programs don’t allow you to place bookmarks. Here is a very quick and easy way to return to your current reading location: Jot down the number of the chapter that you are reading and a string of characters from your current paragraph that are almost certain to be unique. For example, from this paragraph how about “quit a reading session”? The next time you display the book in your browser program go to the desired chapter and then use the program’s Find or Search function with what you jotted down as the search string. The quickest way to do that in Microsoft’s Internet Explorer program is to press the Ctrl-F key combination, type the search string into the Find dialog box, and press the Enter key.
